Why We Built This Reference
Although printed directories faded, the public sources behind them survived in separate systems. Maui County assesses parcels, the statewide Bureau of Conveyances records land instruments, election data follows Hawaiʻi law, and libraries preserve older volumes. We bring the relevant search tools, office contacts, coverage dates, and access limits together for Kahului research.
What the Reference Contains
- Pages by angle: the street directory (address-keyed records), the city directory (the historical shelf), and the resident lookup (one-person searches)
- The rolls and offices: assessor, recorder, elections office, court clerk, vital records, the library's local history collection
- Walkthroughs: how to trace who lives on a street, how to read a directory entry, how to follow a household across the decades
- Access rules: what Hawaiʻi law opens, what stays closed, and how a records request works when something is not online
Limits of Our Role
This private reference site is independent of Kahului offices, Maui County departments, Hawaiʻi agencies, courts, and libraries. Our role has firm limits:
- We cannot confirm whether a specific person currently lives in Kahului
- We cannot pull, certify, or change any record on your behalf
- We cannot add anyone to, or remove anyone from, any roll or database
- We cannot give legal advice about a record or a dispute
- We cannot promise that every coverage year, link, or office detail here is current at this moment
Only the custodian office can confirm, certify, or correct a record. Nothing found through this site may be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
